Mary Sheryle Elkins

Mary Sheryle Elkins. May 29, 1943 – December 22, 2018. Mary Sheryle Elkins, known as Sheryle to those closest to her, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, December 22, 2018 in Franklin, TN after a long battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM at McDonald Funeral Home with Al Behl, Bryan McAlister and Matthew Dotson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Sheryle was born to Chester Leo and Lorena Smythe Scott in the spring of 1943. She grew up in Hardy, Kentucky, where she met her high school sweetheart, Danny Elkins. Sheryle and her beloved husband eloped at the ages of 16 and 19 on August 26, 1959. The couple later moved to Ohio, where they raised their two sons. They were active members of Centerville Church of Christ in Centerville, Ohio. After retiring, they moved to Dandridge, TN and were faithful members of the Great Smoky Mountain Church of Christ for over 20 years. Danny and Sheryle were happily married for over 59 years. Sheryle was affectionately known as “Mama” by her family, especially by her 5 loving grandchildren. She was deeply devoted to her husband and loved her sons and her daughters-in-law. Mama was so proud of and adored each of her grandchildren. Her family was a top priority, and she rarely missed a birthday, special occasion, or family event. Sheryle had a love for the outdoors, which included hiking, flower gardening, and bird watching. She especially loved sighting Bald Eagles on Douglas Lake. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted and loving husband, Danny O’Neil Elkins; her father, Chester Leo Scott; her brother, George Douglas “Doug” Scott and his wife Brenda; her son, Barry Douglas Ekins and wife Mary; her son, Michael Brent Elkins and his wife Regina; her nephew, Brian Douglas Scott and his wife Samantha; her precious grandchildren: Rachel Flom, Cooper Elkins, Griffin Elkins, Adley Elkins and Weston Elkins; and her great-niece Madison Scott and great-nephew Conner Scott. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Great Smoky Mountain Church of Christ, to the Camp Meribah scholarship fund, or the charity of your choice.
