Douglas Gipson

Douglas Gipson was born on June 30, 1932, in Centerville, Tennessee, to the late John Robert Gipson Jr. and Eugenia Gipson. He peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Life Care Center of America. Douglas was the youngest of seven children born to this union. He grew up alongside his six siblings: John Robert III, Harry, Ulysses, Lionel, Lewis, and Mary Francis. He was a proud graduate of O. H. Bernard High School in the Hickman County School System. At an early age, Douglas professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Wrigley Community Church under the leadership of the Reverend William Smith (Eulogist). His faith remained an important part of his life, and he loyally served on the Deacon Board for many years. He later moved his church membership to Mount Zion, where he continued his Christian journey throughout the remainder of his life. Douglas proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. His military service was a testament to his dedication, courage, and commitment to his country. Throughout his life, Douglas demonstrated a strong work ethic and devotion to his 25-year career with River Casting. He was also a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 49. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on his two favorite teams: Brooklyn/LA Dodgers and Tennessee Titans. He himself stayed active for many years taking daily walks around Wrigley Hill. On November 15, 1957, Douglas was united in marriage to Emma Vanleer. Their union was blessed with both a son and a daughter. Douglas and Emma shared 48 years of marriage until her passing in 2006. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Emma, was also his parents, and six siblings. He leaves to cherish his memory son, Reginald (Nancy) Gipson of Jackson, Tennessee; daughter, Pippa Taylor of Lyles, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Ashley Gipson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ryan Gipson of Portland, Maine, and Zavier Taylor of Clarksville, Tennessee; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Douglas lived a long and meaningful life marked by faith, family, service, and commitment. The memories he created and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
