Gary L. Wickline

Gary L. Wickline of Centerville, TN, went home to be with Jesus Monday April 25, 2016 at the age of 65. Gary is the son of the late Everett and Letha Wickline of Crab Orchard, WV. He had 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Gary is survived by his wife Judy, his son Shannon and daughter-in-law Melissa Wickline of Hohenwald, his daughter Amanda and son-in-law Joel Key of Portland, and his beloved grandson Thomas Key. Gary loved trains and spent a great deal of time learning about them and collecting Lionel trains. Anyone who knew Gary would tell you that he could fix or build anything he could think of. While Gary had many talents, his true love was music. Gary learned to play the guitar when he was very young and it later helped him win Judy's heart. He was invited to Judy's house to sing and play when they were just teens and from then on they were inseparable. Through the years Gary entertained many with his deep country voice and the twang of his steel guitar. He sang and played in church while Judy played piano and sang harmony. For six and a half years Gary lead an open-mic Gospel Sing every Friday and Saturday night in Roanoke, Va. The Clearbrook Gospel sing is still active today. Gary and Judy moved to Centerville in October of 2012. Gary quickly made his way into the hearts of several people in his community and was later invited to play his steel guitar with the Grinder Switch Ensemble. Those who tuned into Kix 96 on Saturday mornings enjoyed those steel guitar tones that so beautifully accompanied the singers of the legendary Grinder Switch Hour. Gary's love for Jesus, his family, and his music will always be remembered. His music will play on in our hearts until we meet again some sweet day. Gary's family will receive family and friends for a time of remembrance Wednesday, April 27 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville, TN. Gary will be laid to rest at Portland Memorial Gardens, located on College St. Thursday, April 28 at 11:00 AM in Portland Tennessee. Rev. David Bergeron will officiate the grave side service. Family will be invited to gather at the home of Amanda and Joel Key following the grave side service.
