Jacky Wayne Gilmer

Jacky Wayne Gilmer, 78, of Lobelville, TN, died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, surrounded by his family. Wayne was born to the late Jack and Inez (Byrd) Gilmer on October 31, 1937, at his family homeplace in Gilmer Hollow near Lobelville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, S.N. and Martha Ann (Ledbetter) Gilmer and Joe and Etta (Patton) Byrd, all of Perry County, TN. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gayle (Duncan) Gilmer; son Scott (Amber) Gilmer; daughter Shelby Olds, M.D. (Michael Elswick); and grandchildren Natalie Hope Olds, Marcus Hunter Olds, Sydney Faith Olds, Skylar Grace Olds, Lawson Kingsley Olds, Brady Jackson Elswick, Sawyer Brooks Elswick, and Adaline Elizabeth Gilmer. Wayne graduated from Lobelville High School and served in the Tennessee Air National Guard. He spent most of his career with the state of Tennessee and retired as Chief Engineer for WLJT-TV, Lexington/Martin, TN. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 12:00 Noon at the Gilmer Cemetery, Lobelville, with Bro. Bill McDonald officiating. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Aydelotte, Kevin Kilpatrick, Hunter Olds, Michael Osman, Pete Russell, and Alfredo Varela. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lobelville Public Library (55 S. Main St., Lobelville, TN 37097) or the Gilmer Cemetery fund (Bank of Perry County, 33 S. Main St. Lobelville, TN 37097). The family extends a special thank you to the Lobelville church of Christ, Crooked Creek church of Christ, and the staff of the Vanderbilt Medical Intensive Care Unit. McDonald Funeral Home of Centerville was in charge of arrangements. Directions to Gilmer cemetery. Directions: -From Nashville, take I-40 west to Exit 143 (Loretta Lynn Dude Ranch/Waverly/Linden/Lobelville). -At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Highway 13 South towards Lobelville/Linden. -Go south about eight miles, and you will pass Heath's Canoe Rental on your left. -Then, turn left at the next road, Gilmer Bridge Road. (The road angles back sharply to the left. If -you go into the city of Lobelville, you have gone too far.) -Drive across the bridge, and then turn right on Russell's Creek Road. -After a bend in the road, you will come to a blacktop drive on your right. This is the road to the Gilmer Cemetery. (It is easy to miss. If you come to a fork in the road, you have gone too far.)
