Ora Lee Nash Maddox

Ora Lee Nash Maddox was born on August 27th, 1924 in Primm Springs, TN to the late Bessie Lee Primm and Walter J. Nash. She passed away at her residence in Columbia, TN on December 31st, 2018 at the age of 94. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. in the McDonald Funeral Home chapel. Visitation with the Maddox family will be held on Thursday from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Ora Lee was loved by all who had the privilege to know her. Her quiet, sweet spirit was accompanied by a twinkle in her eye and quick wit. She delighted in telling stories of her childhood and singing ‘church songs.’ While still living at Totty’s Bend, she was often found in her garden and enjoyed canning produce. She was an excellent cook, often winning awards for her entries in the home demonstration club to which she belonged. Quilting was another pastime she enjoyed, as evidenced by her many creations. At one time Ora Lee worked at the ‘5 and dime’ in Centerville, and also taught school in Hickman county. For many years after her husband J.B.’s death, she still took care of her mother-in-law, ‘Mrs. Elise’, and brother-in-law, Ellis Maddox. Ora Lee was a faithful member of the Totty’s Bend Church of Christ for as long as she could attend and enjoyed many activities at the community center there. Aunt Ora Lee was a most important person in the lives of her nieces and nephews, and like another grandmother to the many great-nieces and great-nephews, and even to the great-greats. Her face always lit up when the children were around, and she would play for hours with them. All family members cherished Ora Lee, as did her many friends. Ora Lee Nash Maddox was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.B. Maddox; her brothers, Wallace Nash and Aubrey Nash; her sisters, Mary Nash and Barbara Baker; and her brother-in-law, Ellis Maddox. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Carolyn Nash and Sarah Nash; her brother-in-law, Alfred Maddox (Margaret); and many nieces and nephews: Jim Baker, Aubrey Baker, Randy Baker, Steve Baker, Tim Baker, Elaine Beard, Debbie Beard, Tammy Boone, Gail England, Agnes Grimes, Charles Nash, and Jim Nash. The family would like to thank the good staff of Caris Hospice; and a special thank you to the following caregivers for the love and support they provided during this hard time: Lorie Anderson, Nikki Aviles, Carol Schmidt, Joannie Shively, and Rhonda Benderman. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Totty's Bend Church of Christ (2331 Tottys Bend Rd, Duck River, TN 38454), the Totty's Bend Cemetery, the Totty's Bend Community Center, or a charity of your choice.
