Texie Wagner Holladay

Texie Wagner Holladay, “Mama’T”, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on December 17, 2017, 9:05 p.m. at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Miss. surrounded by family and love. Texie was born on October 10, 1921 and grew up in Gadsden, Alabama. She graduated from Gadsden High School at the age of 16 and then attended Nashville Business College. She met Bertie Leon Holladay on a blind date while he was on leave during WWII. After a short courtship, they knew their future was meant to be together and married March 27, 1943. In 1945, the two moved to Nashville, Tennessee where Texie worked at Hippodrome Oldsmobile as a book keeper. While there, they welcomed their first son, Joseph, and daughter, Janet. In 1951, they moved to Huntington, Tenn. where Texie was the wife of the town’s newest doctor. The family then moved to Linden in 1955 where the family grew to add Judith and Jay. In 1972, the family moved to Centerville in order for Dr. Holladay to join the local medical clinic. For over five decades, Texie was the supportive wife and mother of four allowing her husband to impact the state of Tennessee for generations to come. Family legacies include starting the Hospice Program at Hickman County Hospital, supporting Centerville’s Camp Meribah and Tulipwood as well as supporting Dr. Holladay to lead the community and receive honors such as Man of the Year from multiple organizations. Texie was the woman behind the scenes that supported all of those around her. She was a true Southern Lady and loved her family and her God as an loyal member of the Church of Christ. Texie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. B.L. Holladay and parents Joseph Luther Wagner and Sallie Myrtle Bennett. She is survived by her four children, Joseph Wagner Holladay (Pamela), Janet Elizabeth Foster (Roger), Judith Kay Holladay (Edmund Ronco) and Jay Bertrand Holladay (Melody); six grandchildren, Joanna Vandewater (Nathan), Dr. Patrick Holladay, Kimberly Foster Collins, Carrie Hay (Stephen), Carly and Shelby Holladay; six great grandchildren, Peter, Nicholas, Adam and Caroline Vandewater, Connor Collins and Ellie James Hay. Visitation will take place at the McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville, Tenn. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.. The funeral will follow at 1:00 PM. Donations may be to Centerville Church of Christ - Camp Meribah in lieu of flowers.
